Maintain Your Work-Life Balance

Switching off from your workday can often be more difficult than it sounds, especially if you are working from home or have a lot of work pressure and deadlines. Not being able to disconnect from your workday can often result in your becoming overwhelmed and stressed by your job, and often leads to issues in your personal life, and you are not able to give the necessary emotional energy to your loved ones or yourself.

Life Resolution’s Tips on Leaving Work at Work

·        Define your work hours – whether you work the standard 9-5, night-shifts or you’re a freelancer, try to maintain regular hours and dedicate “after-hours” time when you allow yourself to completely disconnect from work and focus on other aspects of your life.

·        Communicate with your colleagues to develop boundaries – let your colleagues know that you only work between certain hours and not to contact you outside of that.

·        Exercise – exercise is a great way to decompress after work as it forces you to be in the moment and forget about your work obligations. It also allows you to express any frustration, pressure or anger out in a healthy way. Finally, exercise produces endorphins that help to reduce stress and anxiety.

·        Develop hobbies – a hobby will allow you to disconnect from work and focus your mind on something else. You could try reading, learning a new sport, painting, or anything else that sparks your interest.

·        Seek professional help if you need it – if the pressure at work is becoming too much for you and you feel that it is beginning to negatively affect your mental health, it is important to seek professional support to help you to manage these feelings. Our skilled Life Resolutions psychologists can provide the specific services to help you develop practices to deal with workplace stress and to help you to separate work from your personal life.
